Kigali, Rwanda, is currently hosting the Africa Food Systems Forum 2024, a major gathering focused on addressing key issues in the agriculture and food sectors.
The forum, which began on
Monday, September 2, and will run until September 6, 2024, has brought together
over 4,200 participants, including experts from agriculture and livestock
industries, financial institutions, and international development organizations.
The event has attracted researchers, entrepreneurs, high-ranking government officials, influential leaders, and former heads of state, all coming together to discuss critical challenges facing Africa's agriculture sector.
Key topics include climate change
and the persistent weaknesses in agricultural systems that pose significant
threats to food security and the resilience of food supply chains across the
continent.
Beyond discussions on food security, the forum serves as an opportunity for participants to showcase innovative agricultural and livestock projects from Rwanda.
Dr. Musafiri
Ildephonse, Rwanda's Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, emphasized
the importance of this event for exchanging ideas and sharing Rwanda’s
achievements in agriculture, aiming to find sustainable solutions to these
pressing issues.
Dr. Agnes Kalibata, the head of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), highlighted the crucial role of youth in driving necessary changes within Africa’s food systems.
She stressed the importance of innovation and technology in achieving
agricultural development, encouraging young people to be at the forefront of
these transformative efforts.
