While the woman was celebrated worldwide Yesterday, Here is a success story of a woman who found her way out while the world scolded and abandoned her in critical moment of life: unplanned pregnancy

Oda Paccy, a Rwandan rapper, a single mother who was insulted and dropped out of school due to the unplanned pregnancy, has strived and beaten the odds thanks to the Rwandan government policy of woman empowerment.

Uzabumwana Pacifique known as Oda Paccy, is a Rwandan woman rapper who showed perseverance and grit to pave the road she walks on today in her career. She had to pass through hard and conflicting times after giving birth to Lick Lick’s baby; she had to face criticism from various people around her. People said that that was the end of her career, but she proved them wrong.  She raised her baby, kept working hard and has now succeeded in her promising music career as the first ever female rapper in Rwanda to set foot on the Rwandan music stage. Furthermore, she again started school after dropping out for few years; she is now attending University.

As she kept saying to an Inyarwanda.com’s reporter, Paccy reiterated the fact that the confidence and trust H.E. Paul Kagame put in women is key to their emancipation and progress. She also said that every Rwandan woman should take this golden opportunity to flourish and succeed in life, for women have struggled for long to get where they are today.

“Women passed through a tortuous path to get where we are today. Many were discriminated either at home or out. They – women – were denied from their rights to education and were thus not able to show that they are competent just because they were women. Fortunately, with H.E. Paul Kagame’s confidence in women, now women have stepped up and are writing the new history. Currently, women are of value even in high leadership sectors; women were given the value that they are worth.” -Paccy

Paccy urges other Rwandan women to take advantage of the trust that H.E. Paul Kagame has put in women to rise. She claimed that if it had not been for H.E. Paul Kagame, she would not have been where she is today; thus, every woman should do the same.

“Looking back at my career, if women would still be discriminated and deprived of their rights, I would not have the courage to write songs and give back to the country that nurtured me. I have come to understand the value and responsibility that I have as a woman. This epiphany gave me confidence to continue to do what I do and even empower other women through my work. I committed myself to fighting any kind of discrimination towards women and encouraging women to step up in life because I believe that a “real’ woman is the one who is not afraid to undertake any task she has to and is the first to contribute to her country’s development.” Paccy

Until now, Oda Paccy is among the hard working Rwandan artists, and she is doing her best raising her child, who for now started school.
