Rwandan music legend Mako Nikoshwa, born Makombe Joseph, has announced plans to host monthly concerts to reconnect with his fans and prepare for the release of his upcoming album. This move comes as part of his dedication to keeping his music alive and engaging with his supporters after spending over two decades in the music industry.

Mako Nikoshwa, who was born in 1974, began his musical career in 2004 while living in Uganda. His debut track, "Ni Nde," was followed by several hit songs including "Mariya Roza," a collaboration with Ugandan artist Godfrey Seguya (also known as Kayibanda), "Nkunda Kuragira," "Bonane," "Agaseko," and more.

In a recent interview with InyaRwanda, Mako emphasized his meticulous approach to releasing songs, noting that he spends a lot of time perfecting his music before it reaches the public. He explained that he doesn’t dictate the future of his songs; rather, it’s the fans who determine their journey.

"I create music, and the way people respond to it dictates its future," he said. "That’s how it gains meaning. The way it resonates with people is what gives it value."

Reflecting on his career, Mako revealed that he started his music journey alongside notable artists such as Kamichi, Rafiki, Miss Jojo, and others. Despite having spent 21 years in the music industry, Mako has yet to receive any major music awards. However, he remains optimistic, stating that he has never sought awards because he entered the industry with clear intentions and was confident in the direction his music was taking.

"When we started, we were all new to the industry. My songs were huge. The organizers at the time were young and focused on what they knew best. I’ve never been desperate for awards. My music was taking a positive path, and I’m happy that I’ve contributed to the Rwandan music scene," he explained.

In response to the growing demand from his fans, Mako has announced that he will be launching a new series of monthly live concerts called "Mako Music Discussion". These concerts will take place on the last Friday of every month at Wakanda, where he will perform his songs and engage with his fans in a more personal way.

"I want to entertain my generation and my supporters. Come and join me, let’s connect and have a good time together," he said. The events will also feature a request section where fans can ask him to perform their favorite songs, and occasionally, he plans to invite other artists to perform alongside him.

Mako emphasized that these concerts are also a response to those who claim that he has lost his touch in the music industry. He assures his fans, "I’m still the same. I still have it."

In addition to the concerts, Mako is preparing to release his new album, which will feature six tracks. Titled "Mama Rwanda," the album aims to bridge Rwandan music and culture. He has already released one of the songs, "Rwanda Unyumve," but he has not confirmed an official release date for the full album yet. Mako plans to release each song with a music video before the full album becomes available to the public.

This upcoming album is expected to reflect Mako Nikoshwa’s dedication to both his musical craft and cultural roots, and fans are eagerly awaiting its official release.
