The Women in Leadership Summit & Awards (WILS) is set to return to Rwanda, recognizing exceptional women making an impact in various fields.
This year’s nominees
include celebrated figures such as singer Alyn Sano, renowned inanga
player Nzayisenga Sophie, and Capt. Esther Mbabazi, Rwanda’s
trailblazing female pilot with RwandAir.
These awards honor women
excelling in sectors like agriculture, conservation, education,
entrepreneurship, media, technology, health, and sports. In the Media Maven
category, journalists Michele Iradukunda (RBA), Aissa Diana M. Cyiza (Royal
FM), and Scovia Mutesi (Mama Urwagasabo) are among those vying for the top
spot. Meanwhile, Capt. Mbabazi competes in the Innovative Scientist category,
standing alongside Dr. Bernadette Arakwiye and Dr. Marie Chantal Cyulinyana.
Aviation pioneer Capt.
Esther Mbabazi, 34, continues to break barriers, having recently been inducted
into the prestigious Captain’s Club, an elite network of female pilots worldwide.
In hospitality and tourism, Maria Solange Nishimwe (Soso Solange) faces tough
competition from Uwimana Judith, CEO of Safaris Ltd. Meanwhile, Patience
Iribagiza, a former Miss Rwanda contestant and founder of Afroark, is nominated
in the Advocate for Equality category.
The awards aim to
celebrate female leadership and inspire future generations. "WILS provides
a platform for women to engage in mentorship, innovation, and sustainable
leadership conversations," organizers stated. The 2025 edition will build
on the success of previous years, where influential women like international
dancer Sherrie Silver, gospel artist Aline Gahongayire, and motorsport
enthusiast Kalimpinya Queen were also honored.
Beyond recognition, WILS
plays a key role in shaping policy and promoting gender equality in leadership.
By bringing together top female professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators,
it creates a powerful network dedicated to breaking barriers and driving
Africa’s progress.
With the ceremony
approaching, all eyes are on these outstanding women who continue to redefine
leadership across the continent. The event serves as a reminder that empowering
women is not just about recognition—it is about transforming societies for the
better.
