For the past six years, Rwandan singer Barbara Teta, known as Babo, has made waves in the music industry, collaborating with top artists like The Ben, Bruce Melodie, and Urban Boyz. However, few know that before stepping into music, she played for Bayern Munich’s U-15 women’s team.
Now, Babo is expanding
her footprint in entertainment by launching her own event company, Horn
Entertainment, and organizing her first major concert, Amore
Valentines’ Gala. The event, set for February 14, 2025, at Kigali
Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali), will feature Kidum, Alyn
Sano, and Ruti Joel.
Reflecting on her
journey, Babo shared her early passion for music: “My family knew me as a
footballer, but deep inside, music was my true love. Only my cousin knew about
it. After playing for Bayern Munich, I decided to follow my heart and pursue
music.”
Entering the industry
wasn’t difficult for her, as she debuted with collaborations alongside big
names like Urban Boyz before later working with The Ben and Bruce Melodie. She
described working with The Ben as a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity"
and expressed a desire to collaborate with Meddy in the future.
Beyond music, Babo has
shown a strong sense of social responsibility, sponsoring health insurance for
50 people in Bugesera and participating in the 30th commemoration of the 1994
Genocide against the Tutsi in Germany. In 2023, she also publicly declared her
faith by getting baptized.
With her new venture into
event planning, Babo hopes to bring global artists to Rwanda while giving local
talent a platform. “I wanted to invest in my country and create new ways to
promote entertainment. Horn Entertainment is just the
beginning,” she said.
