Renowned Rwandan author and scholar Hategekimana Richard is set to launch his latest book, Rwanda’s Path To The Polls: Elections In A Nation Rebirth, on March 27, 2025.
The book, which explores
Rwanda’s electoral history from pre-colonial times to the present, will be
unveiled at a special event at the Intare Conference Arena in Rusororo.
Speaking to InyaRwanda,
Hategekimana expressed his pride in being the first to document Rwanda’s
electoral journey in such depth. “Being the first to write a book on Rwanda’s
election history is an honor,” he said. “This is my way of giving back to the
country that raised and educated me.”
The author revealed that
his inspiration came from analyzing Rwanda’s unique electoral system, where
elections are celebrated as a unifying national event. “This book serves as a
contribution to all Rwandans, reminding us to uphold our country’s strong
governance, where elections are a celebration, not a division,” he explained.
Hategekimana also
emphasized the importance of Rwandans taking control of their own narrative. “I
refuse to let foreigners write our history and distort it. It is our duty, as
the strength of Rwanda, to shape and document our own story, guided by His
Excellency President Paul Kagame,” he declared.
Dedicated to President
Kagame, the ruling FPR-Inkotanyi party, and the people of
Rwanda, the book aims to be widely accessible. Hategekimana hopes it will be
available in hotels, government institutions, civil society organizations,
religious institutions, political parties, and beyond. “Everyone, including
foreigners and Rwandans alike, should have access to this book to better
understand Rwanda’s uniqueness,” he urged.
With 15 books already to
his name, Hategekimana is a university lecturer, the President of the Rwanda
Writers’ Association, and the head of the country’s publishing industry under
the Private Sector Federation (PSF). His latest work is expected to
be a significant addition to Rwanda’s literary and historical landscape.
