Kigali City has signed an agreement with Gen-Z Comedy, a popular comedy event series, to promote young comedians and enhance entertainment in the city. The deal, signed on February 6, 2025, aims to support emerging talent while providing an engaging social experience for Kigali residents.

The agreement was signed by Kigali City Mayor Samuel Dusengiyumva and Gen-Z Comedy founder Fally Merci, who runs the event through his company, Comedy Is Mine (CIM). According to Merci, the partnership will be reviewed annually to ensure continuous support for comedians and high-quality entertainment for the public.

“This agreement is all about elevating talented comedians and making sure the people of Kigali can enjoy themselves in a vibrant, well-organized city,” said Merci. “We want residents to know exactly when and where they can experience great comedy, allowing them to unwind and connect with others.”

Gen-Z Comedy, founded by Fally Merci in 2022, has quickly become a household name in Rwanda’s comedy scene. Initially held at Art Rwanda Ubuhanzi Incubation Center, the shows moved to Camp Kigali due to increasing audience demand. The event, held twice a month, has featured regional stars such as Uganda’s Alex Muhangi and Kenya’s Chipukeezy.

The partnership also aligns with Merci’s broader vision of expanding Gen-Z Comedy across East Africa. “This is a long-term commitment, and we will assess our progress each year to make sure we’re on the right track,” he noted. The events have already showcased both local and international acts, including legendary Rwandan musicians like Orchestre Impala and Butera Knowless.

With its growing popularity, Gen-Z Comedy continues to attract large crowds at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali), proving that laughter truly has a place in the heart of the city.
