African and global leaders continue to express their congratulations to Rwandan President Paul Kagame following his recent re-election.

On July 22, 2024, Rwanda's National Electoral Commission confirmed Kagame's victory in the presidential elections held on July 15, securing 99.18% of the vote.

Kagame, representing the Rwandan Patriotic Front (FPR Inkotanyi), received overwhelming support with 8,822,794 votes. His closest competitor, Dr. Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, received 0.50%, while Philippe Mpayimana garnered 0.32%.

In a gesture of gratitude, President Kagame acknowledged the well-wishes from leaders of countries such as India, Hungary, Mauritania, Nicaragua, Russia, Singapore, and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

In a message on social media platform X, Kagame stated, "I extend my heartfelt thanks to the leaders who have sent their congratulations, including those from India, Hungary... We look forward to expanding our partnership on shared goals."

Currently in France, President Kagame is attending the launch of the Olympic Games, where he is engaging with other dignitaries, including heads of state and government, international organization leaders, and sports representatives.

The event, led by French President Emmanuel Macron and Rémy Rioux, head of the French Development Agency (AFD), is also focusing on the role of sports in achieving sustainable development goals.

The peaceful and transparent elections were monitored and praised by observers from various organizations, including the African Union-COMESA, the East African Community (EAC), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF).

President Kagame's upcoming five-year term marks a significant moment as he becomes the first to serve under the revised constitution of 2015, which shortened the presidential term from seven to five years.

Messages of congratulations from world leaders, including those from Algeria, Israel, Poland, Togo, China, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, and Madagascar, underscore the international recognition of Kagame's leadership.
