Top Rwandan musicians Bruce Melodie, Senderi, and Butera Knowless thrilled over 420,000 attendees in Huye and Nyamagabe districts. This grand event was part of the campaign for FPR-Inkotanyi’s presidential candidate, Paul Kagame, on Thursday, June 27, 2024. These rallies were held at Nyagisenyi Stadium in Nyamagabe and another venue in Huye.
Paul Kagame last visited
Nyamagabe in August 2022 for official duties, and his last campaign there was
on July 16, 2017. Similarly, his previous campaign stop in Huye was in 2017,
and over 300,000 people gathered in Huye while 120,000 gathered in Nyamagabe
for this year’s events.
In his speech in Huye,
Kagame reminisced about his visits to the district during his time as a
refugee. He recalled attending university events and soccer matches in 1978,
expressing deep connection with the community. He emphasized that voting for
FPR and its candidate symbolizes a commitment to unity and progress, ensuring
past adversities will not recur.
Before Kagame's arrival,
artists entertained the massive crowds. In Nyamagabe, performers included
Ndandambara, Ariel Wayz, Alyn Sano, Riderman, Dr. Claude, and Senderi Hit. In
Huye, Bushali, Knowless Butera, Chriss Eazy, and King James performed, with
Bruce Melodie and Bwiza singing at both venues. Bwiza, voting for the first
time, expressed her excitement about supporting Kagame, while Bruce Melodie
highlighted the positive changes in Rwanda's music industry over the past 30
years.
