The journey in the music industry is often fraught with challenges. Many artists, both locally in Rwanda and internationally, have spoken out about the immense pressures they face, sometimes leading to severe depression and thoughts of quitting music altogether. The societal reception and harsh criticism they encounter can be overwhelming.

Artists often cite various reasons for contemplating an exit from the music scene, with some reluctant to disclose the exact causes. Commonly, the negative reception from society, the harshness of social media, and the lack of support in the industry are significant factors.

For Riderman, a prominent figure in the Rwandan rap scene, his 20-plus years in music have been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, during which he once considered stepping away from the industry.

Riderman, who founded Ibisumuzi Records, is currently in the spotlight due to his latest album, ‘Icyumba cy’amategeko’, a collaboration with fellow rapper Bull Dogg.

Regarded as a role model by many aspiring rappers, Riderman's journey is marked by resilience and perseverance. In his song ‘Amateka’, he proudly reflects on being the only artist to fill the Petit Stade, a significant milestone in his career.

In an interview with InyaRwanda, Riderman revealed that between 2017 and 2018, he seriously contemplated leaving music to pursue other interests. However, looking back, he sees that the good times far outweighed the bad. His decision to continue in music required tremendous mental, emotional, and physical strength.

Encouraged by his family, fans, and fellow musicians, Riderman chose to persist. He received numerous messages from fans urging him to continue making music, even if it was just one song a year.

Their unwavering support, along with his family’s encouragement, reminded him of his commitment to be 'Igisumizi' (a term he uses to describe himself) until his last breath. This support system was instrumental in ensuring that his album and his career continued to thrive.
