Today marks the beginning of a two-day’s International Women’s Day Conference that brings women together, women from different African Countries that “came to learn from Women in Rwanda” as Abolaji Odunuga, one of organizers said.

“We decided to bring this event in Rwanda, because we realized Rwanda has the highest rate of women in leadership and it would be nice to come and see and explore what women in Rwanda are doing differently as is taking their country prosper…” she added.

Abolaji Odunuga is based in UK and she travels in different countries including Africans. In her observation, she realized that whenever she goes, they talk about Rwanda.

“ I am based in the UK, and even though over there if you’re talking about African Countries, they talk about Rwanda. If I go to Nigeria, we talk about Rwanda.”

With this Conference, different powerful women from different African countries “came to sit with Rwandan women to talk and learn from one another.” She stressed.

The International Conference of African Women that is being held in Rwanda, is organized by Abolaji Odunuga, Managing Director and Founder of Duchess International Magazine, and her Business partner, Olayinka Odeajo, the Director of Custodian Global Consult Ltd.

It has been created with the greatest desire to recognize the power of women in culture, business, health and tourism promotion based on innovation and technology.

It started yesterday at Century Park in Kigali, Nyarutarama with a night of “meet and greet” with the aim of welcoming hosts to Rwanda.

The conference brings together women from Nigeria, UK, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya and elsewhere. It is its first year, and they are expecting to make it an annual event.

Rwanda may have a chance to host it even next year because of the “warm welcome” they (guests) got from Rwanda.

“The next event is meant to be in another African country, but we spoke to your DG, Frank Gisa [DG, Frank Gisha Mugisha, Director General of Tourism Department at PSF] he welcomes us very very well, and we are really grateful for the warm welcome he gave us so we’re looking to come again next year to Rwanda before taking it to another country”. Said Abolaji.
