The representative of Catholic Church worldwide, Pope Francis has been hospitalized in Roma with respiratory infection, which is severe, as reported by the Vatican.
Pope Francis suffers from respiratory
infection which will cause him to spend some days in hospital in Roma, the
Vatican reported. The 86 years old has had breathing difficulties in recent
days but not because of Covid-19, as the statement says.
The report says that, “he needs
additional days for medical care but in hospital.” It adds that, “Pope Francis
is touched by many supporting messages received and appreciates for their
caring heart and prayers.”
His closest staff, including security
personnel, are expected to stay at the hospital of Gemelli in Roma, as BBC
reports. This happens while this season is commonly known for being the busiest
of the year for Pope, as he is expected to take great role, as usual, in the
weekend of Easter.
Palm Sunday Mass will take place on
this coming Sunday, which will be followed by Holly Week and Easter celebrations.
He also plans to visit Hungry in the
last weeks of this coming April. Yesterday Wednesday Morning, he carried out
his weekly general audience prayer in St Peter’s Square.
Here, he appeared weak, physically,
and when entering into his car, he appeared as if less stable.
Initially, the Vatican said that he
was taken to hospital for medical check-ups, media in Italy doubted about this
after the interview that he had on TV cancelled unexpectedly.
It’s been a while Pope Francis walk by
the help of a wheelchair in recent months due to his mobility problems
associated with his knee. In 2021, he underwent colony surgery, but in this
January this year, he reported that the colony problems restored.
Despite his conditions, he managed to
remain in duty and paid visits to many nations as expected. In February, he
visited Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan.
In January, he led the funeral of Pope
Benedict XVI, his predecessor, who became the first Pope to resign in the
Vatican in many centuries back; he said that he resigned due to his poor health
conditions.
Pope Francis once said that he would step down just as Benedict XVI did when his health problems remained.
On this Wednesday, Pope Francis appeared being helped into his car (Popemobile)
