The Archbishop Antoine Kambanda becomes the first Rwandan ordained as a Cardinal in history
Pope Francis this Sunday announced thirteen fresh cardinals including Antoine Kambanda of Rwanda.
Antoine kambanda who shepherds Kigali Diocese ordained as a Cardinal by the Pope Francis. He is to begin his duties on 28 November 2020 according to Vatican media.
The Rwandan Cardinal turns 61years-old and was born in the East of Rwanda, Bugesera District. Pope Francis ordained him as a priest in 1990 and previously (2018) ordained him as Archbishop of Kigali.
Archbishop Antoine Kambanda ordained as Cardinal
Archbishop Kambanda was born on 10 November 1958. He graduated from Theology school at Grand Seminaire de Nyakibanda based in Butare Diocese.
He pursued his studies in Italy where he acquired a Degree with honours in Moral Theology. As he returned he was assigned to direct Caritas department and commission of justice at the Kigali Archdiocese.
