Three Rwandan short films on Disability nominated in Focus on Ability Short Film Festival

Three Rwandan short films: ‘Running’, ‘My Responses’ and ‘Bicycle Taxi Men’ were nominated in the international competition category to represent Rwanda among other short films from 17 countries around the world.

Running by Shema Deve, one of short films that represent Rwanda at the contest tells a story of Ngabo, an athlete young man who; in addition to his speaking disability is surrounded by family troubles that he is the only one to deal with. Ngabo must beat the odds and the only way out is the Running Competition.

The film’s writer/director, Shema Deve told Inyarwanda.com that this film is a quiet good example of how one can win over adversity, no matter what problems surround him, thus asking from Rwandans to help his voice heard all over the world.

Voting Started this Wednesday July 27, 2016 and runs through August 8.

This is not the first year that Rwanda has got nominations in this short film competition. In 2014, Joseph Njata and Robert Karara’s “The Burning” which tells the story of Patrick Mbarushimana aka Pazzo, the armless university student won the competition. Last year, ‘Rayisi’ another Rwandan short film about Rayisi, a legless cyclist was nominated but didn’t win the competition.
