RPL: APR FC Held by Gasogi United as Gorilla FC Secures Third Place

On Friday, March 14, 2025, APR FC failed to capitalize on an opportunity to move to the top of the Rwanda Premier League table as they were held to a goalless draw by Gasogi United in Matchday 21. Despite a spirited performance, APR FC remained one point behind league leaders Rayon Sports, sitting at 42 points.

The match, played at Gasogi United’s home ground, saw intense action throughout. APR FC created several scoring opportunities, but Gasogi’s defense and goalkeeper Dauda Bareli were resolute. Key moments included a late free kick by Cheik Djibril Ouattra in the 94th minute, which went off target, and an earlier effort by Rukoneka Jean Bosco in the 76th minute that narrowly missed the goal.

Gasogi United also had their chances, with Hamis Hakim and Alioune Mbaye testing APR FC’s goalkeeper Ishimwe Pierre. The match saw multiple substitutions and yellow cards, with notable bookings for Denis Omedi and Niyigena Clement for reckless fouls. Despite both teams’ efforts, the match ended 0-0, leaving APR FC frustrated as they continue their chase for the title.

On other Hand Gorilla FC solidified their position in third place after a 2-0 victory against Muhazi United. The match, also played on Friday, saw an early breakthrough when Ndikumana Landly netted the first goal in the 2nd minute, capitalizing on defensive errors from Muhazi United.

Muhazi United had a chance to equalize in the 42nd minute through a well-taken free kick by Shaka Tresor, but Gorilla FC’s goalkeeper Muhawenayo God made a crucial save to maintain the lead. The second half saw Gorilla FC dominating possession, with players like Nikola Kagaba and Joseph Sackey continuously pressing forward. Their persistence paid off in the 68th minute when Nduwimana Frank doubled the lead after another defensive lapse from Muhazi United.

With this win, Gorilla FC now sits firmly in third place with 33 points, while Muhazi United remains with 23 points. The victory boosts Gorilla FC’s ambitions of finishing the season in the top three as they continue their impressive run in the league.
