APR FC and Police FC have secured their spots in the semi-finals of the 2025 Peace Cup following their performances in the quarter-final second-leg matches held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
APR FC booked their place in the semi-finals after a goalless draw
against Gasogi United at Kigali Pele Stadium. Having won the first leg 1-0, APR
FC progressed with an aggregate score of 1-0.
The match was intense, with Gasogi United pressing hard to overturn the
first-leg deficit. However, APR FC's defense, led by goalkeeper Ishimwe Pierre,
stood firm. Key moments included a powerful shot by Ndikumana Danny in the 86th
minute, which was saved by Nshimiyimana Yunusu, and a late clearance by APR
FC’s Ishimwe Pierre in the 90+1 minute, denying Gasogi an opportunity to force
extra time.
APR FC’s qualification sets up an exciting semi-final clash against
Police FC, the defending champions of the Peace Cup.
On Otheer hand Police FC secured their semi-final spot after drawing
2-2 with AS Kigali in the second leg of their quarter-final fixture. With an
aggregate score of 4-3, Police FC advanced to the next round.
The match saw AS Kigali take an early lead in the 13th minute through
Haruna Niyonzima, whose corner kick found the back of the net without any
deflection. However, Police FC equalized in the 29th minute when Mandela Achraf
capitalized on a rebound. Djibrine Akuki then put Police FC ahead in first-half
stoppage time, making it 2-1 at halftime.
AS Kigali fought hard in the second half, earning a penalty in the 90+2
minute after Issah Yakubu handled the ball inside the box. Nshimiyimana Jospin
converted the penalty, but the 2-2 draw was not enough for AS Kigali to progress.
With APR FC and Police FC now set to face off in the semi-finals, fans
can expect an electrifying showdown between two of Rwanda’s top football clubs
as they chase the prestigious Peace Cup title.
