Rayon Sports President Twagirayezu Thadee has denied recent reports suggesting that the club is on the verge of sacking Brazilian coach Robertinho.
On Friday, February 28, Twagirayezu
Thadee addressed rumors that the Rayon Sports management was dissatisfied with
the performance of Brazilian coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves de Calmo,
commonly known as Robertinho.
In an interview with Inyarwanda and
TV & Radio 10, the Rayon Sports president clarified that it would be
unreasonable to dismiss a coach who currently leads the league. He also
emphasized that temporary setbacks in football are normal and that no coach can
deliver 100% success all the time.
Twagirayezu Thadee stated:
"Robertinho is currently leading the league and has only 12 or 11 games
left. Yes, there are times when things don't go well on the pitch, but that is
part of football. People who do not analyze football deeply might not
understand that."
“We should not expect Robertinho to
achieve 100% perfection because he is not competing alone. In the past, we have
seen both Rayon Sports and APR FC struggling to win matches in Huye. That means
even top teams face challenges."
“The coach prepares his team based
on the opponent. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses. But today, Robertinho
is the one winning the most because he is in first place. It wouldn’t make
sense to sack a coach who is leading the league just because some people feel
he is not performing well. He has his own approach that is bringing
results."
Speculation about Robertinho’s
dismissal arose after Rayon Sports drew 1-1 with Amagaju at Huye Stadium.
Reports suggested that some club officials were not satisfied with the coach
and that he was on the verge of being sacked.
Despite ongoing discussions about
Robertinho’s future, Rayon Sports remains at the top of the league and faces a
tough challenge ahead. The team is set to play against Gasogi United on March
2, followed by a highly anticipated clash against APR FC on March 9.
