Even though he scored two goals in the match between Rayon Sports and Gorilla FC, Rayon Sports fans are still not convinced, as he missed several clear chances that could have secured a victory.
Rwandan striker Biramahire Abeddy is
currently leading the Rayon Sports attack after Senegalese forward Fall Ngagne
suffered a serious injury during a match against Amagaju, ruling him out for
the rest of the season.
In the first leg of the Peace Cup
quarter-finals, held at Kigali Pelé Stadium on Wednesday, February 26, 2025,
Rayon Sports drew 2-2 with Gorilla FC. In this intense match, Biramahire Abeddy
showcased his skills by scoring both goals for Rayon Sports.
The game started with Gorilla FC taking the
lead by scoring two goals, ending the first half with Rayon Sports struggling
to find a way back. However, in the second half, it took Biramahire only seven
minutes to revive Rayon Sports, scoring in the 50th and 57th minutes to level
the game at 2-2.
In the 50th minute, Biramahire Abeddy took
possession of the ball, noticed the Gorilla FC goalkeeper off his line, and
cleverly lobbed the ball over him to score the first goal for Rayon Sports.
In the 57th minute, after relentless pressure
on Gorilla FC, Biramahire scored the equalizer from a well-placed pass by Adama
Bagayogo.
Despite scoring twice, Biramahire missed
several chances, raising concerns about whether he can truly replace Fall
Ngagne, who had been the backbone of Rayon Sports' attack. In the 70th minute,
he attempted to score his third goal, but his shot went straight into the hands
of Gorilla FC goalkeeper Muhawenayo God. The rebound fell back to him, but with
an open net ahead, he sent the ball over the bar despite the goalkeeper being
down.
In the 18th minute, while Rayon Sports was
still trying to equalize an early goal, Biramahire received a pass from
Serumogo Ali Omar but missed another opportunity by sending his shot over the
bar.
Although some fans criticized his missed
chances, Biramahire made up for it by scoring twice and linking up well with
teammates such as Aziz Bassane Koulagna, Bagayogo Adama, and Serumogo Ali Omar.
This teamwork suggests that as they build chemistry, their overall play will
improve.
The debate over whether Biramahire can
replace Fall Ngagne continued until the 89th minute when Rayon Sports made a
substitution, bringing in Prince Elenga Kanga for Biramahire after he had
played a solid match.
With Fall Ngagne sidelined for the rest of
the season, Biramahire Abeddy now carries the responsibility of leading Rayon
Sports to league and Peace Cup glory. Currently, Rayon Sports sits at the top
of the league with 41 points, four points ahead of second-placed APR FC, which
has 37 points.
