Rwanda's national basketball team delivered an outstanding performance, defeating Gabon 81-71 to secure a spot in the 2025 African Basketball Championship.
Rwanda entered the game under
pressure to win after losing its first two matches against Senegal and
Cameroon.
The Rwandan players showed determination
from the start, winning the first quarter with a 24-16 lead. Gabon responded in
the second quarter, narrowly leading 18-17. Despite that, Rwanda maintained its
advantage, ending the first half ahead with a score of 41-34.
In the third quarter, Rwanda
extended its dominance, pushing the score to 64-53.
The final quarter was a test of
resilience, as Gabon fought hard to close the gap. However, Rwanda’s solid
defense and consistent scoring made it difficult for their opponents to catch
up.
The game concluded with Rwanda's
81-71 victory, officially granting them a ticket to the 2025 African
Championship.
This will be Rwanda's seventh
appearance in the tournament, following previous participations, some of which
were by invitation or as hosts. The last time Rwanda qualified without an
invitation was in 2011.
The 2025 African Basketball
Championship will take place in Angola from August 12 to August 24, featuring
