One point out of 12 is all that Rwanda’s football giants, APR FC and Rayon Sports, managed to collect from their league matches played at Huye Stadium.
Matchday 18 of the Rwanda Premier League saw
both Rayon Sports and APR FC once again fail to secure three points at Huye
International Stadium, following their defeats there during the first round of
the season.
On Saturday,
February 22, 2025, Rayon Sports drew 1-1 with Amagaju FC, maintaining their top
spot with 41 points, four points ahead of APR FC.
The match between
Rayon Sports and Amagaju FC began with both teams searching for an early goal.
Rayon Sports eventually broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Fall Ngagne
found the back of the net after a brilliant assist from Rukundo Abdoulrahman.
However, Amagaju
FC didn’t back down. In the 78th minute, Kiza Useni Seraphin equalized after a
well-delivered pass from Masudi Narcisse. Despite Rayon Sports' efforts to
score a winning goal, Amagaju FC stood firm, and the game ended with both sides
sharing the points.
This draw
extended Rayon Sports' struggles at Huye Stadium, as they had also lost 2-1 to
Mukura VS during the first round.
In another
match played on Sunday, APR FC suffered a 1-0 defeat against Mukura VS, with
Malanda Destin scoring the lone goal in the 18th minute. APR FC pushed for an
equalizer and came close in the 86th minute when Djibrill Outtara’s well-taken
free kick hit the post.
This victory
reinforced Huye Stadium's reputation as a challenging ground for Rwanda’s top
clubs, as APR FC had also lost 1-0 to Amagaju FC there in the first round.
After Matchday
18, Rayon Sports remain at the top of the table with 41 points, followed by APR
FC with 37 points. This highlights how competitive the title race remains, with
tough fixtures ahead for all the top teams.
Ultimately, out
of the 12 points contested by the football giants at Huye Stadium, Rayon
Sports' single point from the Amagaju game was the only one that made its way
back to Kigali.
