APR FC secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Musanze FC on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Peace Cup.
The dominant performance at Kigali Pelé
Stadium ensured APR's progress with a 4-0 aggregate win after a goalless draw
in the first leg.
The match kicked off with APR FC displaying
attacking intent from the start. It took only four minutes for Mahamadou Lamine
Bah to open the scoring, capitalizing on a brilliant team move. The early goal
set the tone for APR FC, as they controlled possession and kept Musanze FC
under constant pressure.
Mamadou SY doubled the lead in the 30th
minute after dribbling past two defenders and slotting the ball past goalkeeper
Nsabimana Jean de Dieu. Despite Musanze's attempts to respond, APR's solid
defense, led by Niyigena Clément and goalkeeper Ishimwe Pierre, thwarted any
threats.
The second half saw APR FC intensify their
dominance. In the 62nd minute, Hakim Kiwanuka added the third goal after a
goalmouth scramble. Fourteen minutes later, Mamadou SY netted his second of the
night, sealing APR's emphatic win and confirming their place in the
quarterfinals.
Musanze FC tried to fight back with multiple
substitutions, including the introduction of Leonidas Munyangabo and Batte
Sheif, but APR's well-organized defense held firm. The hosts also made changes,
with Nshimiyimana Ismael Pichou and Dushimirimana Olivier coming on to maintain
the tempo.
With this victory, APR FC now prepares to
face Gasogi United in the quarterfinals. The upcoming clash carries added
significance, as Gasogi United eliminated APR FC at the same stage last season.
APR will be determined to avoid a repeat and continue their quest for Peace Cup
glory.
