Rayon Sports secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Peace Cup after defeating Rutsiro FC in both legs of the Round of 16. The decisive second leg was held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Rayon Sports' home ground.
In a dominant performance, Rayon Sports won
2-0, with goals from Omborenga Fitina and Aziz Bassane, adding to their earlier
2-1 victory in Rubavu. The aggregate score of 4-1 sealed their progression to
the next round.
Omborenga Fitina
opened the scoring with a powerful free-kick in the 60th minute, giving Rayon
Sports the lead. Later, in the 81st minute, Aziz Bassane doubled the advantage
after a well-timed pass from Rukundo Abdlahaman, ensuring the team's
comfortable victory.
Despite efforts
from Rutsiro FC, including attempts from Mussa Ndusha and Ndabitezimana Lazard,
Rayon Sports' defense, led by goalkeeper Khadime Ndiaye, stood firm. The team
showed great resilience and control throughout the match.

now joins other quarterfinalists, including Amagaju, who knocked out Bugesera
FC, Gasogi United, who defeated AS Muhanga, and Mukura, who eliminated Intare
FC.
