Jolly Mutesi, crowned Miss Rwanda in 2016, was among the spectators of the thrilling FA Cup third-round match where Arsenal faced Manchester United.
The game, played on Sunday evening,
January 12, 2025, at Emirates Stadium in London, ended with Arsenal's elimination
after a 5-3 penalty shootout loss following a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes.
Manchester United took the lead in
the 52nd minute when captain Bruno Fernandes finished a superb pass from
Alejandro Garnacho. However, their momentum was disrupted in the 61st minute
when Diogo Dalot received a second yellow card, leaving his team with ten
players.
Arsenal quickly capitalized on the
advantage, equalizing just two minutes later through defender Gabriel
Magalhães. Despite relentless efforts from both sides, neither team could find
a winning goal during regular time or the 30 minutes of extra time, resulting
in a penalty shootout.
Manchester United was clinical in
the shootout, scoring all five penalties, while Arsenal managed only three,
sealing their exit from the competition. Ruben Amorim's side now advances to
the fourth round, where they will face Leicester City.
Arsenal remains a club with strong ties to Rwanda through the Visit Rwanda partnership, which promotes Rwandan tourism globally. This connection continues to draw the attention of prominent individuals like Miss Jolly Mutesi.
