Renowned Rwandan artist and songwriter Safi Madiba, born Niyibikora Safi, has announced his first concert in Kigali after four years living in Vancouver, Canada.
The performance is set
for Saturday, December 7, 2024, at The Green Lounge in Kicukiro, where he will
share the stage with notable personalities, including Phil Peter, former Miss
Rwanda contestant Muyango Claudine, and DJ Brianne.
Expressing his excitement
about the upcoming show, Safi said, "I’m thrilled to come back
home and can’t wait to connect with my people." The concert will
also serve as an opportunity to showcase his new album, Back to Life, released
earlier this year.
This marks Safi Madiba’s
debut solo concert in Kigali since departing from Urban Boys and embarking on
his independent musical journey. Since relocating to Canada, he has focused on
his career, releasing a variety of tracks and performing internationally in
countries like France, the USA, and Canada.
The Back to Life album
is a milestone for Safi, featuring collaborations with top artists like Meddy,
Harmonize, and Rayvanny. Tracks such as Got It, Nisamehe, and In
a Million have garnered positive reception, showcasing his evolution
as a solo artist. Safi describes the album as a reflection of his growth,
saying, “This album is special; it represents a turning point in my
musical journey.”
Safi was a key member of Urban Boys, a group that dominated Rwanda’s music scene and even won the prestigious Primus Guma Guma Super Star competition.
Despite the group’s
success, Safi parted ways in 2018 due to creative differences but acknowledges
Urban Boys as a critical foundation for his career. "Urban Boys is
like a parent to me; we started young and made incredible music together," he
shared.
With his upcoming
concert, Safi aims to reconnect with fans in Rwanda and solidify his place as a
leading figure in the music industry. His return to Kigali is more than a
performance—it's a celebration of resilience, growth, and a heartfelt
homecoming.
