The University of Rwanda held its 10th graduation ceremony on Friday, October 25, 2024, at its Huye campus, conferring degrees upon more than 8,000 students. Attendees included Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente, along with other government officials and university partners, who joined to celebrate this milestone achievement.
This year’s graduates
came from six colleges within the university, including the Colleges of
Education, Science and Technology, Arts and Social Sciences, Business and
Economics, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Animal Sciences. Among the 8,068
graduates, 3,109 were female and 4,959 male. The university awarded
undergraduate, master's, and PhD degrees, with 53 students receiving
doctorates.
In his speech, Prof.
Didas Kayihura Muganga, Vice Chancellor of the University of Rwanda, commended
the graduates for their dedication. “You faced challenges, but those
experiences shaped you into leaders and forward-thinkers,” he said. He
emphasized the responsibility they bear as ambassadors of the university,
urging them to remain humble and committed to service.
Prime Minister Dr.
Ngirente encouraged the graduates to contribute to Rwanda’s growth,
highlighting that the nation awaits the impact of their skills and knowledge.
"We trust that the education you received here will help you tackle the
pressing challenges Rwanda faces," he noted, adding that more than 100
graduates from 24 countries were among the class, a testament to the university’s
reputation.
Minister of Education,
Joseph Nsengimana, extended his gratitude to the families and faculty who
supported the students, recognizing their shared role in the day’s
achievements. He expressed confidence in the graduates’ potential to effect
change both in Rwanda and beyond.
The ceremony, attended by
high-ranking officials, business leaders, and family members, closed with a
procession led by the University of Rwanda’s School of Music, symbolizing the
