First Lady Jeannette Kagame were among the many who came to pay their respects
to this distinguished figure. Before the formal proceedings began, mourners
took a moment to reflect on Dr. Karemera’s courage and dedication throughout
his life, especially during his service to Rwanda.
President Kagame
expressed his condolences to the family and shared fond memories of their long
relationship, dating back to the 1970s. He praised Dr. Karemera’s vital role in

fighter but also a builder of the nation after the Genocide,” Kagame said,
praising his leadership in health, education, diplomacy, and governance,
including his tenure as a minister, ambassador, and senator.

Dr. Karemera’s younger brother, expressed gratitude to Rwanda’s leadership for
supporting his brother through his 13-year battle with cancer. He acknowledged
the immense help from the military and the healthcare system during those
challenging times.
