MTN Rwandacell Ltd (MTN Rwanda) has officially opened a modern kitchen at GS Bukure in Gicumbi District, part of its broader efforts to improve education in rural areas. The kitchen, which was constructed over three months, will provide nutritious meals to over 1,500 students, boosting their health and enhancing their learning environment.
This initiative is part
of MTN Rwanda’s annual Y'ello Care campaign, launched in June 2024 under the
theme "Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow: Education for Rural and Remote Communities."
MTN Rwanda CEO, Mapula Bodibe, emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “Building this kitchen is one of the most impactful contributions we could make. We are not only supporting our current community but investing in the future of Rwanda.
Education is a key driver of development, and proper nutrition is essential for
academic success and growth.” Along with the kitchen, MTN Rwanda has committed
to feeding 10,000 students during the 2024-2025 academic year through its
support of the national school feeding program, Dusangire Lunch.
Launched in June 2024,
the Dusangire Lunch Campaign is a collaboration between Mobile Money Rwanda,
the Ministry of Education, and Umwalimu SACCO to ensure that students receive
daily meals at school. MTN Rwanda has pledged Rwf 30,000,000 to cover meals for
10,000 students in the upcoming school year, reinforcing its commitment to
empowering the next generation through education and nutrition.
The program aims to ease the burden on students and parents by providing reliable access to meals, which not only supports academic performance but also physical and cognitive development.
“Investing in a child’s future starts with something as simple and
impactful as one meal. Together, we can make a lasting difference,” said
Chantal Kagame, Chief Executive Officer of Mobile Money Rwanda.
