Kigali Mayor, Samuel Dusengiyumva, has promised significant improvements in infrastructure to support artists over the next five years, with plans to ease access to these facilities. His remarks came during a comedy event, "Gen-Z Comedy", at Camp Kigali on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
Speaking at the event,
Mayor Dusengiyumva highlighted how the city intends to bolster the arts sector,
noting that advancements in comedy, music, and other creative industries have
positioned Kigali on the global stage. He acknowledged the need for affordable,
artist-friendly venues.
During the Q&A
session, popular media personality and artist Uncle Austin pointed out the lack
of dedicated spaces for artistic performances, noting that existing venues like
Camp Kigali aren’t ideal for shows due to technical challenges. Mayor
Dusengiyumva agreed and assured the audience that new artist-focused venues
would be developed.

more accessible spaces for frequent performances. He pointed out that high
costs often limit opportunities, highlighting how some artists pay millions for
temporary venues.
