Rwandan rapper Diplomat Nuru Fasasi has announced plans to seek legal advice after a Kenyan music group, Wakadinali, used his song without his permission.
On Wednesday, September
18, 2024, Diplomat expressed his shock after learning that the group remixed
his song “Nyirurwanda” from his album "Fasassie Vol.2" and released it under
the title “Jathum” as part of their album *The Rong Don II*.
Diplomat emphasized the
double standards in the music industry, noting that artists in other countries
get praise for using others’ work, while in Rwanda, they face harsh criticism.
Despite the situation, he vowed to take necessary steps to protect his music.
The rapper admitted that many artists lack knowledge of intellectual property laws, and this has motivated him to learn more about copyright and legal processes to safeguard his creations in the future.
