On Sunday, August 11, 2024, President Paul Kagame was sworn in for a new five-year term that will run until 2029. The ceremony, held at the newly renovated Amahoro Stadium, was attended by over 45,000 people, including 22 heads of state, prime ministers, and other dignitaries from around the world.
President Kagame, who won
the July 2024 election with 99.18% of the vote, expressed his gratitude to the
Rwandan people for their continued trust. He reaffirmed his commitment to lead
the nation with integrity, uphold the constitution, and work tirelessly for the
peace and unity of Rwanda.
During the ceremony,
President Kagame took the oath of office and was presented with the national
symbols by the Chief Justice, Dr. Faustin Ntezilyayo. The event also included a
military parade, showcasing Rwanda’s security forces.
In his inaugural speech,
President Kagame highlighted the unity and determination of the Rwandan people
in shaping their future. He emphasized that the recent election period was a
time of joy and affirmation of the country’s progress, setting the tone for his
