Over 200,000 people, predominantly members of the FPR-Inkotanyi, gathered at the Rusizi Stadium to welcome the party's candidate, Paul Kagame, along with representatives from eight allied political parties.
The event, held on Friday, June 28, 2024, marked the eight stop on Kagame's campaign trail as he seeks re-election in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for July 15, 2024.
Arriving around 11:30 AM,
Kagame addressed the crowd, sharing his vision for the next five years and
expressing gratitude for their warm reception. He acknowledged their
substantial turnout and praised the continued support from allied political
parties, emphasizing the nation's progress and resilience.
In his speech, Kagame highlighted the critical role of Rusizi residents in maintaining security, assuring them that their safety is paramount. "I thank you for playing a significant role in ensuring security, which is in your hands, our collective hands.
No one can threaten our security," he stated. Kagame reiterated
that any attempts to disrupt peace would be futile and encouraged the community
to continue their vigilance.
The event featured performances from artists such as Bruce Melodie, Bwiza, King James, Knowless, Chriss Eazy, Marchall Ujeku, Igisupusupu, and Agnes.
They entertained the
audience with songs celebrating Kagame's leadership and the nation's development.
Traditional dancers from the Abasaamyi group from Nkombo also captivated the
crowd with their unique performances.
