NEC Announces Preliminary Results for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections

The National Electoral Commission (NEC) announced preliminary results for the Presidential and Parliamentary elections on Thursday, July 18, 2024. President Paul Kagame achieved a resounding victory, securing 99.18% of the vote, with 8,822,794 votes. His competitors, Frank Habineza and Philippe Mpayimana, received 0.50% and 0.32% of the vote.

In the parliamentary elections, the FPR-Inkotanyi party and its allies won 68.83% of the seats. Other parties, including PL, PSD, DGPR-Green Party, PDI, PS Imberakuri, and independent candidate Nsengiyumva Janvier, garnered varying percentages ranging from 0.21% to 8.66%.

NEC Chairperson Oda Gasinzigwa commended the Rwandan populace for their exemplary conduct during the elections held on July 14-15, 2024. She reiterated the smooth and peaceful nature of the electoral process, reflecting the nation's commitment to democracy.

Paul Kagame, born on October 23, 1957, in Ruhango, has a storied history of leadership. From leading the liberation struggle to serving as Vice President and Minister of Defense, Kagame has been a pivotal figure in Rwanda's journey. 

Since becoming President in 2000, he has won consecutive elections in 2003, 2010, 2017, and now 2024, solidifying his position as a transformative leader.
