Festival International du Cinema et de laudio-visuel du Burundi (FESTICAB) for its 7th edition kicked off last Saturday, April 24, 2015 but was disrupted by the national security crisis due to protests following the announcement of the candidacy of current president Peter Nkurunziza for the third term.
All activities in the capital city Bujumbura are on a halt due to the current national security crisis, and these activities include the week long running international film festival which was due to close this Thursday, April 30.
Afrifame.bi reporter who is currently in Bujumbura confirms that, just like all other institutions including media houses, schools, public entities, etc. FESTICAB was stopped due to insecurity.
There is no word from festival organizers as we can’t reach them and the last facebook updates on the group's site were done on saturday .
Paris based Cameroonian film director, Francoise Ellong, whose film called W.A.K.A was supposed to primiere last sunday, noted through a facebook chat with us that she had lost touch with what was going on, since communication is broken .
