MTN Rwanda yesterday announced the launch of a water utility payment service that will allow customers to pay their bills using MTN Mobile Money off an easy-to-follow menu on their mobile phones.
The launch that took place at Kigali Serena Hotel saw the Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) plus other banking institutions come together to make this announcement.
Commenting on the innovation, Minister of Infrastructure, James Musoni, said mobile bill payments increased reliability of water supply to customers and thanked the concerned stakeholders for enabling ease of water bill payments for Rwandans.
MTN CEO, Ebenezer Asante said, “The convenience of MTN Mobile Money to our customers is important because it is a real time solution and will eliminate delays in updating customer accounts, queuing to make payments as well as the need to physically move to pay your bill. When customers find making payments so simple, they will certainly keep their accounts up-to-date and will therefore never get disconnected.”
Customers can pay their Water Bills using MTN Mobile Money by simply following the steps below;

Enter MM PIN
Customer details will be displayed, confirm the details
Enter the amount you wish to pay
Enter MM PIN to confirm payment
Customer receives a notification message
This value added service is expected to improve customers’ lives by ensuring quick and efficient utility bill payments as customers can now pay bills at any hour of the day or night and avoid disconnections therefore providing them with a convenient way to manage their water bills. This adds to the already existent portfolio of services available through the MTN Mobile Money Service.
“We currently have over 2 million Mobile Money Customers which is a great opportunity to leverage and expand the service to these customers. Our desire is to ensure that our customers get the best service in the most convenient way possible,” Asante added.
