Amid ongoing speculations about tensions between veteran leaders committed to revitalizing Rayon Sports and Sadate Munyakazi, the club’s president, Twagirayezu Thadee, has affirmed that he is unaware of any existing conflicts. He stated that Munyakazi is always invited to meetings, although he never attends them.

In recent months, former Rayon Sports leaders have taken the initiative to restore the club’s success and pursue trophies. Among them is Sadate Munyakazi, who led the team during the COVID-19 period, a tenure marred by various controversies, although Rayon Sports has often faced challenges throughout its history.

As soon as the veteran leaders established a roadmap for the club, they were taken aback by a letter from Munyakazi Sadate, in which he demanded reimbursement for funds he claimed to have spent while serving as the club’s president. This request seemingly created tension between him and his fellow former leaders, as he has since distanced himself from their efforts to revive Rayon Sports.

During a press conference on Sunday, Twagirayezu Thadee clarified that despite Munyakazi’s absence from their gatherings, it should not be misinterpreted as a conflict. He emphasized that Munyakazi is always invited to club events, leaving the decision to participate up to him.

Twagirayezu stated, “We invited him, and we continue to invite him to all our meetings and events. Even during our last activity, we sent him an invitation. If he didn’t show up, he may have had personal reasons perhaps he was unwell or out of the country, but he never informed us. From our perspective, we are still on the same page with him, as there is no visible reason to suggest otherwise.”

Following the intervention of the veteran leaders, their efforts have yielded positive results, as Rayon Sports finished the first half of the Rwanda Premier League season in first place with 36 points.
