Rayon Sports goalkeeper Khadime Ndiaye has apologized to the club’s management, coaches, and fans after making an unnecessary mistake that earned him a red card.
On Tuesday, Rayon Sports faced Police FC in the Intwali Cup semifinal.
The match ended in a 3-1 penalty shootout defeat for the Blues and Whites, who
also finished the game with a numerical disadvantage.
Khadime Ndiaye was sent off in the 77th minute after reacting
aggressively to Byiringiro Lague, who had fouled him. The goalkeeper stood up
and ran toward Byiringiro, grabbing him by the head, which led to his dismissal.
Speaking to Rayon Sports TV, Ndiaye explained what happened, saying:
"I caught the ball, and then that player came and hit me in the face. I
got angry, and that’s why I reacted that way. But that was not my intention. I
did not mean to do that, especially since my team needed me at that
moment."
He expressed regret for his actions and vowed not to repeat such
behavior:
"I know I am someone who brings joy, but I want to apologize to Rayon
Sports’ management and coaches. I am here because of Rayon Sports, and I will
do everything possible to ensure I don’t make such a foolish mistake
again."
Ndiaye also acknowledged that anyone can make mistakes and specifically
asked for forgiveness from Rayon Sports fans.
"I am here to work, not for personal enjoyment. Everyone makes mistakes;
we are all human. But I did not do that intentionally—I was just angry at the
moment, yet the team needed me on the pitch. I should not have acted that way.
Some people may not have fully understood what happened, which is why I apologized.
And I am once again apologizing to the Rayon Sports fans. They know that is not
the kind of person I am. I know they support me, and I am here for them."
Looking ahead to the second half of the season, Ndiaye promised
improved performances, stating that the team is determined to win every
available trophy.
When asked for a final message to the fans, he once again emphasized
his remorse:
"I sincerely apologize to the fans, management, and the entire Rayon
Sports family. I made a mistake in the match against Police FC. I know they
always support me, and I must work harder to do better."
Currently, Rayon Sports is preparing for the league’s second leg after
finishing the first round at the top of the table with 36 points. Their first
game of the second round will be against Musanze FC.
