Tanzanian rapper Darassa has officially announced his highly anticipated album, Take Away the Pain, set for release on February 7, 2025.
The album consists
of 15 tracks, featuring collaborations with some of East Africa’s biggest
artists, including Harmonize, Alikiba, Zuchu, and Mbosso. Some of the
tracks were produced by Rwandan hitmaker Element, adding an international
touch to the project.
Born on September 3,
1988, Darassa has been a major name in the East African music scene, gaining
widespread fame with his 2016 smash hit "Muziki" featuring
Ben Pol. Since then, he has remained one of Tanzania’s most consistent hip-hop
artists, releasing music that resonates with fans across the region. Speaking
about his new album, Darassa described it as his most personal and
transformative project yet.
“This album is about
life’s struggles and emotions,” he shared on Instagram. “Every day, people go
through challenges that make them feel hopeless. But through music, we can
heal, escape, and turn pain into victory.” He emphasized that Take Away
the Pain is not just about the music but also about sending a message
of resilience and hope.
The album features an
impressive tracklist, including "Breakdown" (feat. Alikiba),
"Mazoea" (feat. Harmonize), "Romeo" (feat. Zuchu), and
"Looking for Love" (feat. Mbosso). Other collaborations include Bien,
Jay Melody, and Zac Brown, making it one of the most anticipated Tanzanian
albums of 2025.
In addition to working
with Element, Darassa enlisted top producers such as Kaniba Creator,
Kapipo Beat, Blvcq Igbo, Foxxx Made It, Trone, S2kizzy, and Abbah Process, with
final mixing done by The Mix Killer. He revealed that his journey to
creating this album involved traveling extensively across Tanzania, working
with different sounds and artists to perfect the project.
Take Away the Pain marks
Darassa’s second studio album, following 2020’s Slave Becomes
a King. With this new project, he aims to solidify his place as one of East
Africa’s most influential hip-hop artists while delivering music that speaks to
real-life experiences. Fans can expect a mix of powerful lyrics, emotional
depth, and unforgettable collaborations.
