Renowned Burundian artist Jean-Pierre Nimbona, famously known as Kidum, is set to return to Kigali for another memorable performance.
This comes just five
months after he last graced the city’s stage during his celebratory concert
marking over 100 shows in Rwanda. Kidum has been announced as one of the
headliners for the first-ever "Amore Valentine's Gala," scheduled for
February 14, 2025, at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, popularly
known as Camp Kigali.
Known for timeless hits
like Amosozi, Kidum has a strong connection with Kigali, where his
music continues to captivate audiences. His last performance in the city on
August 23, 2024, during the "Soirée Dansante" at Camp Kigali, was a
resounding success. This Valentine's Gala will see him share the stage with
Rwandan artists, whose names will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Reflecting on his
longevity in the music industry, Kidum credits his passion and work ethic. “The
secret is knowing your craft,” he shared during his previous visit to Kigali.
“Just like a restaurant thrives with cleanliness, good food, and excellent
service, my music stands out because of its quality and respect for the
audience. My performances focus on decency and creativity.”
Fans can expect an
unforgettable night, with hits like Birakaze, Kumushaha,
and Haturudi Nyuma, which he performed alongside Juliana, and
collaborations with artists like Alpha Rwirangira, Marina, and Lady Jaydee. His
music, often infused with themes of love, has made him a household name across
the Great Lakes region.
Over the years, Kidum has
released several celebrated albums, including Yaramenje (2001), Shamba (2003), Ishano (2006), Haturudi
Nyuma (2010), and Hali Na Mali (2012). At 49, he
remains a towering figure in East African music, blending Kirundi, Kinyarwanda,
and other languages into soulful melodies.
Having performed in
Kigali numerous times, Kidum has cemented his place as one of the city's
favorite international artists. As Valentine's Day approaches, his upcoming
concert promises to deliver the same magic that has endeared him to Rwandan fans
over the years.
