The renovation of Huye International Stadium has been postponed for over a month to accommodate matches involving Rayon Sports and APR FC hosted by Amagaju FC and Mukura VS.
On Friday evening, the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) issued a statement confirming that, following consultations with the Ministry of Sports and the Rwanda Housing Authority, the stadium renovations would now begin after March 10, 2025.
FERWAFA stated: “We are pleased to inform all Rwandans, especially football fans, that the
renovation of Huye International Stadium will soon begin to elevate it to
international standards, enhancing the football experience. The renovations
will commence after March 10, 2025, to ensure the league schedule remains
unaffected.”
Originally, the renovations were scheduled to
start on February 1 and conclude by July 31, 2025. However, the timeline has
been pushed back due to upcoming Rwanda Premier League fixtures, including
Amagaju FC hosting Rayon Sports on February 22 and Mukura VS hosting APR FC on
February 23.
Additional matches at Huye include Mukura VS
facing Bugesera FC and Amagaju FC also playing against Bugesera FC. After these
games, the stadium will be closed for renovations.
This decision was influenced by the
significant revenue generated during the last fixtures where Rayon Sports and
APR FC drew large crowds at Huye. Hosting these teams again is expected to
attract substantial attendance and income.
Meanwhile, the second-round league schedule
also highlights the eagerly awaited clash between APR FC and Rayon Sports,
slated for May 10, 2025, at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium.
