Rayon Sports head coach Roberto Oliveira Gonçalves do Carmo, commonly known as Robertinho, has expressed his disappointment about the team missing one of its key players, Muhire Kevin, in the upcoming match against Mukura Victory Sports.
Robertinho stated that while there
are other players who will step up to fill the gap, it will be challenging to
replicate the impact Kevin brings to the team.
Speaking to the press after a training session on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Nzove, Robertinho emphasized Kevin’s importance.
The session was attended by almost all Rayon Sports
players, except for Muhire Kevin, who is sidelined due to injury, and Musa
Madjaliwa, who is reportedly distancing himself from the team.
Muhire Kevin sustained his injury
during Rayon Sports’ 2-0 victory over Police FC, ruling him out of Saturday’s
crucial match in Huye District.
“It’s deeply disappointing not to
have Kevin,” said Robertinho. “He is a player who carries our instructions as
coaches to his teammates and serves as the backbone of our game plan. While we
have others who will try to take on his responsibilities, there’s no doubt
about the difference Kevin makes for us.”
Rayon Sports has been performing
exceptionally well in the league, maintaining an unbeaten run so far. However,
Robertinho acknowledged that winning every game takes a toll both physically
and mentally, admitting that the pressure had once caused him health issues.
“Winning every match is a demanding
task,” he said. “We managed to do it in my first season here, even while
competing against top teams in Africa. But it requires tremendous effort, and
sometimes it even leads to illness due to the strain.”
Rayon Sports is set to face Mukura
VS on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Huye Stadium at 5:00 PM. Mukura currently
sits in eighth place with 18 points, while Rayon Sports leads the league table
with 36 points.
