Players Hakim Kiwanuka and Denis Omodi, reportedly signed by APR FC, are among the 36 provisional players called up by Uganda to prepare for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to take place in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania in 2025.
On Wednesday, January 8, 2025,
Uganda's national team unveiled the 36-man squad, from which 30 players will be
selected to represent the country in CHAN, starting February 1, 2025. Kiwanuka
and Omodi, both forwards who have been pivotal for Uganda's national team, made
the list due to their consistent performances and contribution in the attack.
However, concerns have arisen regarding
their eligibility for CHAN due to the tournament's regulations. According to
CHAN rules, players signed by clubs outside their home country are ineligible
to participate. Since the transfer window in Rwanda closes on January 31, 2025,
it remains uncertain whether Kiwanuka and Omodi will be allowed to play in the
competition.
Although APR FC has not officially
confirmed the signings, sources within the club indicate that the two players
have already signed contracts and are expected to begin training soon.
CHAN is a tournament exclusive to
African national teams, featuring players who compete in their domestic
leagues.
