Maisha Film Lab moves its Rwandan Lab to May, and Submission Deadline Extended

Rwanda Maisha Screenwriting Lab, the first of its series of East African Screenwriting Labs in 2016 was moved to May, from 9 to 16.

As announced on the organization’s blog, the extended Deadline for Rwandan Lab is March 31 for the Lab which will take place from Monday, May 9 to Monday, May 16.

Stichting DOEN will for the second year be funding the 2016 series of Screenwriting Labs in East Africa. Maisha will have 4 annual 8-day intensive programs in each of Maisha’s target countries (Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda). Fifteen scholarships will be awarded in each country. Starting the Year off, is the Rwandan Lab which was moved from March to May. It was not announced the reasons for these changes so far. Click here to submit.

About Maisha Film Lab

Founded in 2004 by Mira Nair, Maisha Film Lab is a Kampala based non-profit organization initiated at training East African young filmmakers to developing their hands on craft and tell their stories with its first lab conducted in Kampala, Uganda in 2005. It trains filmmakers in 4 East African countries namely Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.

For over 10 years in action, Maisha Film Lab has trained over 500 participants with full scholarships, and 50 short films were produced and screened in international film festivals. Maisha Film Lab has been a launching career opportunity for many young filmmakers, including Kenyan Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Columbia university alumni Rwandan filmmaker Gilbert Ndahayo in 2006, Kivu Ruhorahoza, Joel Karekezi, among many.
