“Women Film Festival – Rwanda” a new international film festival to honor and promote women in Cinema

Women Film Festival Rwanda is the new international film festival which is born in Rwanda for its first edition 2015 to honor and promote women in cinema in which films made by women will be screened in the course of 4 days.

This first film festival of its kind in East Africa is kicking off from 26th to 29 August 2015 in Kigali Rwanda, to celebrate films made by women from across the world but especially Africa as confirmed by Odile Uwimbabazi, one of the festival organizers.

This festival is organized by Cine-femme Rwanda; an organization founded in 2013 for the initiative to promote women in men dominated film industry through workshops and film production.

One of regulations for films submission in this film festival is to be directed by the woman and made after January 2012, and the deadline is set at June 2, 2015. Click HERE to submit your film.

In addition to the film screening, this festival will also host a series of film workshops and master classes which will be conducted by FEED – the organization of American Women equivalent to Cine-Femme Rwanda which entails at promoting women in cinema through support in workshops in different countries.

This series of week-long workshops which will be conducted in Kigali from August 23 up to the closing day August 29 will be conducted in 3 parts:

1. Master class for women already working in film industry, where they will discuss:

-Screenwriting, Film development, Casting and film production.

-Acting for Television/Film/Stage (techniques for each stage)

-Film marketing 

-Publicity/Branding/Social Media for art

-Legal distribution

-Business in the industry

2. The 2nd part will be the workshop of Screenwriting and development for new faces in cinema (but of course women).

3. The 3rd part of this series of workshop will be the symposium for young adult women enthusiasts in film industry of between 13 years and 21 years, where they will share the experience with their equivalent young American filmmakers namely Jada E. Harris, a high school junior, founder of Self-Less The Movement, Adriana C. Carter, A filmmakers Co-Founder of Mental Bombshells and her Co-Founder Chardae M. Harris.
