Tigers BBC defeated Espoir BBC 80-73 in the headline game held at Lycée de Kigali, while Patriots BBC overcame Azomco 89-64 in the opening matches of the Basketball League.
The clash between Tigers BBC and
Espoir BBC was highly competitive, featuring two of Rwanda’s top teams. The
first quarter saw both teams neck and neck, but Espoir BBC managed to lead with
22 points to Tigers’ 21.
In the second quarter, Tigers BBC
picked up momentum, with standout performances from Shema Bruno and Ikishatse
Hervé. Despite Espoir BBC's effort to bounce back through Shema Didier, Tigers
BBC ended the first half in the lead, 41-40.
The third quarter proved decisive
for Tigers BBC as they extended their lead to 64-54. Although Espoir BBC
narrowed the gap in the final quarter, Tigers BBC maintained their dominance,
securing victory under coach Henry Mwinuka to kick off their league campaign on
a high note.
Another team that impressed was
Patriots BBC, which defeated Azomco 89-64, showcasing their strong ambitions
for the season.
The game between REG BBC and Orion
BBC was halted in the third quarter due to heavy rain at the Kepler court in
Kinyinya. This match will resume on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Lycée de
Kigali.
On Saturday, January 25, 2025, the
league continues as Kepler BBC, led by Olivier Turatsinze, faces UGB BBC.
Saturday will also mark the start of the women’s league, with defending champions REG WBBC taking on UR Huye, APR WBBC facing UR Kigali, and Kepler WBBC clashing with The Hoops.
