APR FC’s new striker from Burkina Faso, Cheick Djibril Ouattara, has arrived in Rwanda, sharing his reasons for joining the Rwandan Army club.
Ouattara landed at Kigali International
Airport early Thursday morning, January 23, 2025, where he was warmly welcomed
by some officials from the club. His arrival follows recent reports that he had
signed with the team.
Speaking to B&B Kigali FM, Ouattara expressed his excitement about playing for APR FC.
He said: "I cannot wait to start playing for APR FC. I have played for clubs in
Morocco and Algeria, as well as for my national team. With God’s help, I will give
my all to APR FC and achieve even more."
The striker revealed that he chose APR FC because of the club’s solid project.
"It’s a team with a good project that attracted me. Together with my
teammates and the club’s management, I believe we will accomplish something
significant," Ouattara added.
Although he was not familiar with Rwanda
before APR FC reached out to him, he took the time to learn more about the
country and concluded that it is a beautiful place.
He also acknowledged the large and passionate fan base of APR FC and expressed his determination to make them proud.
"I’ve seen that the club has a lot of fans who strongly support their
team. With God’s help, I am confident I will make them proud," said the
25-year-old.
Ouattara signed with APR FC after parting
ways with Algeria’s JS Kabylie. He previously played for Morocco’s RS Berkane,
where he won trophies, including the CAF Confederation Cup.
At the international level, Ouattara has been
representing Burkina Faso since August 24, 2018. He has so far played 14
matches for his national team, scoring two goals.
In January alone, APR FC has signed three
players, including Ouattara. The other two are Ugandan wingers Hakim Kiwanuka
and Denis Omedi, who both play as attacking midfielders.
