The journeys of Rayon Sports and APR FC in Rwanda’s top-tier football league faced significant challenges in Huye, as both teams suffered surprising defeats on Matchday 15, leaving football fans across the country stunned.

Mukura Victory Sports ended Rayon Sports’ unbeaten streak in the league with a 2-1 victory during a thrilling match held at Huye International Stadium on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Rayon Sports began the game on the offensive, creating several opportunities. However, Mukura turned the tides in the 39th minute when Jordan Dimbumba scored the opening goal. Just before halftime, Mukura doubled their lead thanks to Niyonizeye Fred’s well-executed strike.

The second half saw Rayon Sports push harder, earning a penalty in the 50th minute, which Fall Ngagne converted successfully. Despite their relentless efforts to find an equalizer, Mukura’s defensive resilience ensured the game ended in their favor, 2-1.

Rayon Sports concluded the first leg of the season at the top of the table with 36 points, while Mukura VS finished 7th with 21 points.

Meanwhile, at Huye Stadium, Amagaju FC delivered a standout performance against APR FC, securing a 1-0 victory courtesy of Ndayishimiye Edouard’s 56th-minute goal.

APR FC fought valiantly to stage a comeback, but Amagaju’s defense, led by goalkeeper Twagirumukiza Clement, held firm, denying APR any clear chances to score.

By the end of the match, APR FC remained in second place with 31 points, while Amagaju FC climbed to 8th, sharing 21 points with Mukura VS but trailing on goal difference.

This Matchday left Rwandan football fans puzzled, as the defeats of the league’s giants showcased the growing competitiveness among mid-table teams.

As the league progresses into the second leg, clubs will start preparing for the return fixtures. A pressing question on everyone’s mind is whether Mukura VS and Amagaju FC have turned Huye Stadium into an impenetrable fortress, especially after top teams like APR FC and Rayon Sports have already faltered there.
