The African News Agency (ANA) is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary in Kigali, marking a decade of impactful journalism since its establishment in 2015.
Founded in February 2015
in Cape Town, South Africa, by Sekunjalo Investments and Independent Media
under the leadership of Iqbal Survé, ANA emerged after the dissolution of the
South African Press Association (SAPA).
ANA was created with a mission
to highlight, analyze, and provide solutions to Africa's economic, governance,
social, and developmental challenges. Over the years, ANA has rapidly expanded
its operations, establishing a presence in key cities including Paris, Dakar,
Abidjan, Libreville, Douala, Rabat, Tunis, and Kigali.
To commemorate this
milestone, ANA will host a special event in Kigali on Friday, January 10, 2024.
The celebration will bring together international media experts to discuss
strategies for advancing the future of African journalism. Notable guests
include Eugène Nyagahene, founder of Tele10; Patrick Bofunda Ilingo of TV5;
Oria K. Vande Weghe, spokesperson for La Francophonie; Clare Akamanzi, CEO of
NBA Africa; and Elie Habimana, head of Norrsken East Africa.
The event will focus on
the theme, "Shaping the Future of African Journalism," fostering
dialogue on strengthening the media industry across the continent. Discussions
will aim to address the evolving challenges and opportunities in the sector.
Additionally, ANA plans
to launch a media training institute dedicated to equipping journalists with
the skills to tackle industry challenges and drive media innovation in Africa.
The initiative underscores ANA's commitment to excellence in African
journalism.
"This project
reflects our dedication to leading in African media. It's not just about
training journalists; it's about empowering them to address global issues while
staying grounded in Africa's unique dynamics and opportunities," ANA's
management stated.
