The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has issued a recall for a batch of Sure Lubricated condoms due to quality concerns. In its latest directive, the regulatory body has urged Kenyans to immediately stop using the product as a precautionary measure.
The recalled batch, which is widely distributed in public hospitals, schools, and health centers, was part of a government initiative aimed at reducing the spread of HIV, AIDS, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Sure condoms are provided free of charge as part of the government’s health program to promote safer sexual practices across the country.
According to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, the decision to recall the batch was prompted by reports of quality issues that could pose a risk to public health. While the specifics of the quality concerns have not been disclosed, the board emphasized the need for caution and the importance of using certified and safe products for sexual health.
The PPB has advised the public to discontinue the use of the affected condoms and seek alternatives that are approved by the health authorities. This move comes as part of the government's ongoing efforts to protect public health and ensure that products distributed for HIV and STD prevention meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
The recall has raised concerns among some individuals who rely on the government program for free access to condoms. However, health experts have reassured the public that the recall is a necessary step to ensure safety, and alternative products will be made available.
