Rwandan gospel artist Israel Mbonyi is set to headline a year-end worship concert in Kenya alongside renowned Tanzanian singer Christiana Shusho. The highly anticipated event, scheduled for December 31, 2024, promises a spiritual celebration as worshippers prepare to usher in the new year.
Mbonyi, who recently
performed at the Africa Worship Experience in August 2024 at
Nairobi's Ulinzi Sports Complex, has become a favorite among Kenyan gospel
fans. His return marks the third time this year he has been invited to perform
in Kenya, highlighting his growing popularity across East Africa.
Christiana Shusho, known
for gospel hits like Shusha Nyavu and Wa Kuabudiwa,
expressed her excitement for the event on social media, writing, "Kenya,
December 31 we cross over with amazing artists." Her announcement further
heightened anticipation for the concert, which is expected to draw a large
crowd of worshippers.
The concert, however, has
sparked discussions among Kenyan fans about the prominence of international artists
in local events. Some have called for more opportunities for homegrown talent.
A Kenyan fan, Bennar Mitumba, humorously remarked, "If Israel Mbonyi
doesn’t share his secret, he might end the year on stage alone." Another
fan, Khoeros, advocated for Kenyan artists, saying, "We have great talents
like Sarah K; they should also be given a platform."
Interestingly, the same
night will also see Jamaican dancehall star Shenseea performing in Kenya,
creating a buzz among music lovers. Despite this, many Kenyan worshippers
remain eager to witness Mbonyi and Shusho’s powerful performances, with one
fan, Mr. Bradley, sharing, "I must attend this concert because God has
been faithful to me this year."
As December 31
approaches, the stage is set for an unforgettable night of worship and
celebration in Kenya, featuring two of East Africa’s most beloved gospel
artists. Fans are eager to see how the evening unfolds as Mbonyi and Shusho
inspire worshippers to end the year on a high note.
