Renowned Ugandan comedian Herbert Mendo Ssegujja, famously known as Teacher Mpamire, charmed the hearts of thousands at the "Gen-Z Comedy" show in Kigali.
The event, held on
Thursday, July 25, 2024, at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, saw
Mpamire hilariously impersonating Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni while
expressing admiration for Rwanda's youth.
The show, a platform for young talent and comedy enthusiasts, coincided with celebrations of President Paul Kagame's re-election with 99.18% of the vote.
Teacher Mpamire's debut at
Gen-Z Comedy, alongside Dr. Hillary Okello, marked a special moment for the
event, drawing an audience of over 2,000, surpassing the venue's usual capacity
of 1,500.
Teacher Mpamire entertained the crowd with his witty impersonations and praises for Rwanda's youth, contrasting their proactive spirit with the often contentious youth movements in Uganda and Kenya.
He also expressed deep gratitude to Fally Merci,
the event organizer, for inviting him, highlighting the importance of such platforms
for youth empowerment.
The event also featured other comedians like Keppa, Dudu, Pirate, and Clement Inkirigito. The crowd, including notable attendees like Dr.
Mpabwanamaguru Merard, the Deputy Mayor of
Kigali, appreciated the comedians' performances, recognizing the role of events
like Gen-Z Comedy in promoting cultural development and positive youth
engagement in Rwanda.
Mpamire is known for his
comedic impersonations of President Museveni's life and mannerisms.
